The concept of adaptive reuse is what initially drew me to pursue my Masters in Urban Planning. While one aspect of it may draw people to the architectural field, I am more interested in the concept of using adaptive reuse methods as a tool for community and economic development and sustainability. For my first semester in my Masters program, I had to do a focus study on an aspect of urban planning that interested me. This study would need to include articles, advocacy, policies, and journal articles regarding the topic. Each student then needed to put together an entire portfolio of all of these readings, present a synopsis poster on the topic, and write a reflection/literary review paper. Instead of doing a portfolio, I requested the ability to put together a website. For me a website made more sense as it would easier to search and find as well as offer more flexibility for organization than a binder.

After the course was complete, I decided that I had a lot of material that lent itself to a more complete, open website. So I developed AdaptiveReuse.info. The site focuses on case studies of successful adaptive reuse projects. It also is a portal to news, advocacy, policies, and criticisms/issues regarding the field. I’ve also put together a “book club” of literary on the topic.

The site uses WordPress for content management and is adapted from the Full Screen design template by Graph Paper Press.

Coinciding with the start of my internship at the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations (MACDC), the group was undertaking a complete redesign and redevelopment of their website. With the programming contracted out to Dan Collis-Puro, I was asked to assist with the project by developing its design and coordinating production.

The new site, launched in December 2009, offers cleaner navigation and consistent layout and font. Utilizing BrowserCMS, the staff now has a much easier, more straight-forward method to updating the site in the future. Google has been heavily integrated: utilizing Google Calendars to manage two calendars (the association, the members), Google Analytics for tracking, and Google Maps for a clear display of all the member organizations within the Commonwealth.

I was asked to help provide an online presence for Nancy Nickerson’s election run in Farmington, CT. As a City Council candidate, Nancy wanted to provide information about herself and her position while at the same time making it easy for the residents to contact her. Establishing an online presence has allowed her to reach an additional demographic.

The site is run off of WordPress.

Prior to using the WordPress system, I had designed a number of versions of kre8-ive.com to showcase my online portfolio. Initially launched as “studiophusion,” the website followed a storyline to portray the work. It slowly evolved into a more pictorial entity. The final version prior to this one actually went completely different, focusing on page layout based off a resume template I designed. Images were launched as Shadowbox features, keeping the website clean and very light.

Since relaunching kre8-ive.com using WordPress, I have rebranded the site to SPeterKane.com. The rebranded site which you are viewing now is the second iteration.

With the move to WordPress, I have returned to a pictorial focus while at the same time increasing content management.

This was a personal project of mine born out of the numerous issues I had with my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. After horrid customer service experiences and then reading disparate stories about many other issues VW owners have faced, I decided that there needed to be a single location to keep these stories. Since the launch of the site, there have been a number of stories submitted and the traffic remains very constant.

The site has gone through three versions. The latest one incorporates utilizes the WordPress framework in order to create a better workflow as well as manage the growing content. The design of version 2 was mostly retained for this third version.

The Green Element was developed as a method to not only aggregate articles and links regarding sustainability, but to provide scale to the topic. The articles are broken down into categories dependent on the level of impact the sustainability initiative pertains. The concept is to help individuals better understand at what level action can be taken. This portal also helps to further promote the topic of sustainability.

The site uses WordPress for content management and is based off of the Futurosity Smashing Magazine design template.

Neoscape was contracted by DriverSource, a high-end automobile dealer and service provider, to rebrand their company. DS is located in Houston, TX, and includes a race track and climate-controlled luxury storage.

This site was put together for my employer, Neoscape, who launched an Autodesk user group. The group focuses on animation and includes many individuals in the area working in the film, 3D, animation realm. The website was designed to incorporate meeting information, location details, archives, and a contact form.

The site utilizes JQuery and Shadowbox, along with XHTML and CSS.

This website was a design that was put together for the Boston Firefly Project, the Boston chapter of Amnesty International. The project included logo and branding development, website design, and website programming. The project went through all phases but was not launched.

The site utilized HTML, CSS, Lightbox, forms, and a calendar.

The building of a large new residential tower in New York City required a lot of marketing. SJP Residential contracted Neoscape to produce numerous marketing assets for this major project, the Platinum. The most impressive piece may well have been the tryptic short film which played in the sales center across three 65″ plasma screens. A majority of the film played in the center screen, but the viewer was enveloped numerous times as the film expanded to all three screens in selected scenes.

For this project, I coordinated the production of: twelve 3D illustrations, tryptic short film, website, sales center experience, sales center graphics, media CD, interactive amenity tool.

Occasions Boston was the brainchild of Megan O’Connor. To better promote her personalized notes businesses, she requested a site that would showcase her portfolio of past pieces as well as solicit new clients.

The site was designed however it remained as a concept piece and was not launched.

Following the success of our marketing assets for Loft5, m_space development hired Neoscape to take on their sister development, L5. Located in Las Vegas, this project catered to a younger, hipper crowd.

For this project, I coordinated the production of: twelve 3D illustrations, website, media CD, short film, two commercials, floor plan visualizer.

This was a concept site that I put together after a local Boston model approached me. She was looking for a nice way to showcase her modeling photo while also given as much credit to each of the photographers.

This concept used HTML, CSS, and Quicktime.

Launched in 2006, this website went through one additional revision before the owner decided to shut it down. Conceived as a portal for the art community of the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts, Dan Gleason had a number of different contributors to the site offering stories, art, poems, and comics.

The site utilized a news format with CSS and light javascript.

Originally built in 2004, this website is still going strong. It was built to showcase pottery artist, Mark Runnals, who lives in the art community of Village of the Arts in Bradenton, FL.

The site was inspired by an earlier version of Apple.com.

Version 2 is currently in production and nearing completion.
